CAUTION AND HOPE
In our lives we celebrate the joys and endure events that would see us break. Sometimes, however, the bad becomes too much to handle and it lingers despite our best efforts. In an attempt to shelter ourselves from the cruelty that we sometimes must live through, we turn into our worst enemy. Tactics that were once used as shields become dangerous and, while we tell ourselves it is strength, we know deep inside that we are still hurting. Often we lash out at others, or turn to substances or actions that allow us to forget – even a moment. Anything to not feel overwhelmed.
This book has characters who struggle with the world and with themselves. Concepts such as abuse, sexual entitlement, addiction, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are present and could trigger anxiety in some people.
If you are suffering, know that there is hope no matter how dark the every day may seem. Talk to a qualified therapist, or speak to others who have endured too much. We speak to ourselves in ways we would never speak to others, and these people can show you the compassion you may not be giving yourself.
Do not be ashamed that you struggle. We all do. Your pain shows that you are still fighting. That you are not giving in – even if part of you wants to. It may be hard to understand what you’ve been through and why you are still hurt by it, but you have something amazing in you. You CAN overcome. Don’t give up. There is hope if you can dare to believe that all you have to do is take one little step at a time to find it.
You are worthy. You are enough.
